VALLEY
OF THE ANGELS RESIDENCE
The site for this country house is a remote 400-acre parcel of woods and farmland, located in the foothills of Oregon’s Cascade Range. The house sits on a gently sloping hillside looking southeast over a meadow and stream to fields and mountains beyond. It extends across the slope, allowing main living spaces access to sunlight and views. A broad stone terrace stretches across the front. The great room occupies the house’s center, with the kitchen wing and covered porch to the east, and master suite and den to the west. Along the north side of the house are service areas and a stairway leading to three bedrooms tucked under the gables. Crowning the house is a cupola reached via a secret stairway. Materials include stone-clad concrete perimeter walls and a copper roof outside, with plastered walls and recycled wood floors, trim, cabinets and beams inside.
This house is featured in the book Dream Homes of the Pacific Northwest.
