SEATTLE RESIDENCE ALTERATION
Seattle, Washington

The first phase of this project, completed several years ago, added a second story above one leg of this L-shaped ranch house, gave it a spacious new kitchen, and transformed its exterior. The second phase, designed to create additional space for the growing family, addresses the house’s other, forward wing. On the ground floor, several small rooms were combined to create a large family room and new bathroom. The second story was extended above the wing, creating a new child’s bedroom and a master suite with a sunny, private deck and a soaring cupola. The new upstairs hallway overlooks the garden and is designed to double as a future library. Relocating the garage entry from the side to the front allowed much of the driveway to be removed so that the front garden could be significantly expanded.
