STAIRS
Well-designed stairs contribute much more to a project than simply connecting different levels. Stairs can be important and dynamic spaces in themselves, bringing daylight into the interior and helping to establish the character of the project. Most of the stairways shown are in new houses. The few in alteration projects are either entirely new (because the alteration involved the addition of a second floor, and thus a new stairway to it) or substantially altered. Several of these stairways have appeared in books and magazines.
