LADD'S ADDITION
RESIDENCE ALTERATION

Portland, Oregon

Located in the Ladd’s Addition Historic District, this renovation returned a dilapidated turn-of-the-century house to its original status as one of the neighborhood’s finest residences. The house had been badly altered over the decades, and the entire third floor and roof destroyed after a major fire. Renovation work involved stripping the house down to its studs and entirely rebuilding it, with extensive work to strengthen the structure and repair fire damage. Virtually every component is new, including interior and exterior surfaces, windows, and electrical, plumbing and heating systems. The interior was redesigned to create more open, functional spaces, including a new kitchen, master suite, and separate basement apartment. A new garage and deck were built in the back yard. The project's highlight is the new third floor and roof, recreated based on historical information.

This house was featured on the cover of Oregon Home magazine’s annual remodeling issue (September/October 2006). It was also featured on the 2006 Oregon Remodelers Association Home Tour.
